Create and edit tasks

Add a task, fill in its details, and change it later from the detail pane or straight from the grid.

Create a task

Start a new task

In Tasks, make sure the view selector next to the title says Standard, then select New Task. The detail pane opens on a blank task.

Give it a title and description

The Title is required. The description is a rich-text editor. Format text, add checklists, links and images, and type @ to mention a teammate.

Set status, priority and assignee

All three are required. New tasks start with your workspace's default status (see Statuses).

Add dates (optional)

Pick a Start Date and a Due Date. The start date can't be after the due date.

Save

Select Save Task. Or use the arrow next to it for Save and New to go straight on to another task, or Save and Close.

Task fields

FieldNotes
TitleRequired.
DescriptionRich text. @mentions in the description are for reference; to notify someone, mention them in a comment.

PriorityRequired.
Assigned ToRequired. One person per task. For shared work, use subtasks.

Start Date / Due DateOptional calendar dates.
Review remindersOptional. See Reminders.
Parent TaskMakes this task a subtask of another. See Subtasks.
ProjectFiles the task under a project. It can only be set on a top-level task; subtasks follow their parent's project.
Custom fieldsSelect Add Field to add one of your workspace's fields, or a field just for this task. See Custom fields.

Copy a task

Open a top-level task and select the Copy Task button next to the title. Task Arrow creates a duplicate, including its subtasks, which you can then rename and adjust.

Quick edits from the grid

Right-click any task in the grid to change its Status, Priority, Assigned To, Start Date or Due Date without opening it. Choose a field, then pick the new value. Dates open a small calendar with a Clear date option.

See what changed

The History tab in the detail pane lists every change to the task: who made it, when, and the old and new values.

Delete a task

Open the task and select Delete Task, or use the delete button at the end of its row in the grid. You'll be asked to confirm.

Careful

Deleting a task can't be undone.
